Many children experience allergies. It is not uncommon for a child to be allergic to certain pathogens in the air, or to the food that they eat. This is why it is important to take precautions to protect your children from any allergens and to keep them as healthy as possible. The one of the first steps to caring for your child is knowing what to look for. Here are some symptoms that children may exhibit when they have an allergic reaction.

1. Eczema or Hives

Skin problems are a very common symptom of allergies. It is not normal for a young child to have acne once they are past the baby acne stage. You might start to notice break outs on their buttocks, their neck, or stomach. The hives and eczema could come and go, or it might appear to be constant. What you will notice is that as you identify what food or allergen is causing the problem, as soon as it is eliminated the skin problem will correct itself.

2. Excessive Crying

Many people experience feelings of anxiety or an impending sense of doom when they have an allergic reaction. A young child may not be able to tell you that they feel scared or worried; instead they might appear to be explosive or cry excessively. You might feel that your child is just an intense personality, without realizing that in reality they are simply having an allergic reaction that is making them feel scared, and uncomfortable.

If your child is unable to control their emotions, or seems to be very clingy and worried all the time, you should have them tested for allergies.

3. Digestive Problems

When many people think of allergies they think about the immediate reaction you have when you eat something that doesn't agree with you. For instance, you might expect your child to start swelling, or have troubles breathing. Although this can happen, in some cases the allergen will get all the way to the gut before it starts to create problems. The child may have diarrhea or constipation, or may complain of stomachaches. If the problem goes undetected for a long period of time the child could experience damage to their intestine. You might not bloody stool, or infections and being sick often. This is not something that should be ignored.

If you notice any of these problems in your child you should get them tested for allergies, such as at Asthma and Allergy Clinic, and begin treatment right away.
