One of the most annoying medical problems you can have is a headache. They may seem minor to others, but when you have a splitting headache, it can make it impossible to concentrate, work, or go outside. Nevertheless, you may not want to constantly be taking drugs to make a headache go away. Here are four other ways you can help to reduce or eliminate your headache.

Use essential oils

One of the easiest ways to help your headache is to apply some essential oils. Peppermint, lavender, frankincense, wintergreen, and birch are all great for headaches. You can mix them in a roller bottle or apply them separately. Rub the oils along your forehead, under and behind your ears, and along the back of your neck. Reapply until your headache is gone. You can also place them in some boiling water and breathe in the aroma.

Rest your head

Oftentimes one of the best things you can do for a headache is to rest your eyes and your head. Use a cold compress over your eyes and lay down with your head slightly elevated. This cold compress will help soothe your eyes and your head.

Stop looking at a screen

Many headaches can be caused by staying in the same position and looking at a screen awkwardly for hours on end. Take a few minutes every hour to get up, walk around, and stretch your muscles. When you get back to your screen, adjust the brightness of your screen to help ease the strain on your eyes that leads to headaches. Make your screen a little dimmer so that your eyes don't have to adjust to the contrast to reduce your eyestrain and headaches.

Drink more water

While it's not always the case, many headaches are caused by dehydration. Pay attention to how much you are drinking throughout the day. If you are getting a headache, consider when you last went to the bathroom or if you need to go currently. If it's been several hours, drink several glasses of water. This will take some time to help alleviate your headache, often an hour or more. Nevertheless, it will take care of the root cause of your headache. To prevent headaches from returning, make sure that you are drinking enough water on a daily basis.

As you do these things, you will be able to help your body overcome headaches and feel better and healthier.
