If you are thinking about getting Botox injections in the near future, there are a few things you need to know in order to have the best outcome possible. For example, did you know that there are medications that could cause you to bruise? If you have not done your homework, you may inadvertently cause problems with your Botox that could have been avoided. Here are a few things that will help you to have the best Botox outcome possible.

Don't Rub Injection Site

Botox is an injection that can be applied to certain areas to numb or paralyze facial muscles. This can reduce wrinkles and age lines. However, that is only true if the Botox is placed in a certain location and then stays there. Immediately after a Botox injection, the actual solution may not be absorbed for several hours. That means that if you touch, rub, or massage the area where it was injected, you may accidentally push it to a different part of your face, numbing the wrong muscles. For this reason, you should avoid touching your injection site for up to 24 hours following the procedure.

Avoid Blood Thinning Medications

There are several medications that you should avoid which may cause your blood to become thinner, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and fishy oils. Make sure that any medications that your doctor has prescribed do not have any blood-thinning factors, or else you may have pretty colorful bruising that may stick around for a while.

Avoid Raising Your Heart Rate

You should avoid any activities that will raise your heart rate in the 24 hours after your procedure. Things like running, yoga, and other types of exercise can get your blood pumping in a way that may cause bruising.

Ice the Area

Make sure to ice and elevate the area in order to decrease bruising as much as possible. Ice will constrict the blood vessels in the area where the ice is applied, helping your Botox injection site to heal more quickly.

In conclusion, small things can affect how well your body heals after Botox injections. If you have any questions about things that you can and cannot do in the 24 hours after having Botox, ask your doctor! They may have specific instructions pertaining to the area of your body where you received injections. Make sure to ask questions before and after your procedure so that you are prepared.
